My Maxima Replacement
Alright, so i've had a really rough week and a half. I got into an accident with the Lexus i've been driving for the past little while, and it got written off on thursday morning. I haven't even had time to take the mods off the maxima yet, but thats what i plan on doing this weekend.
I'm staying within the Nissan family, and getting myself a 2009 Nissan Altima Coupe 2.5S 6spd... why? you ask..
- It is a BEAUTIFUL car.
- It's still a Nissan.
- Absolute bang for the buck.
- I know people are gonna tell me to get the 3.5 engine instead. But, given the price of gas, and the amount of driving i do, i'll stick with the 2.5. And plus, if i was really going to get the 3.5, i'd buy a year or two old G coupe instead.
Unfortunately, i wont have posession of the car for about another 2 months. All the 2008's are sold out, and at this point they're taking orders for the 2009's.
Eventhough all the mods will be gone, i'll be hanging on to the maxima until the new car arrives, at which point, the maxima will go up for sale as well.
SO... thoughts? comments? concerns?
I've done a lot of research on it, and theres a few cons and all but the pros, and the pure styling aspect of the car outweighs the cons to me.

Your argument sounds fine to me. Yes, I'd want the 3.5, but you do what you gotta do. I like the new Altima - congrats.

Re: My Maxima Replacement
Food for thought, How much is an older G? what are the payments on the G. What is the difference in payments on the altima? How much do you expect to spend on gas? Add the G monthly cost plus gas, then subtract it from the altima monthly payment plus gas. Don't forget insurance premiums. Are you really saving any money ?
For example, I saw this comparison, A guy with a Ford f150 with no payments who gets 14 miles per gallon decides that gas is too expensive. (3.50 Gallon) He goes out and buys a Toyota corolla for 12k (US), monthly payments in the range of 300 a month. even at 40mpg it will take him 7 years to start "saving money". These numbers are not exact as I am going by memory but it makes sense to me. He should keep the truck. The money he is saving on gas is being spent on interest and monthly payments, and higher insurance premiums...
In your case, if making monthly payments on a cheaper G, the money you save vs the altima payments can be put towards gas...

Re: My Maxima Replacement
Congrats! Any car, brand new, or used "new," is exciting. I agree that the Altima coupe is a nice car as I've seen a few on the road recently. I like it in either white or red.
I am surprised you'd buy new, unless you are leasing. You know where I'm going.....as soon as you drive out the lot, you take a huge hit on depreciation.
That said, the Altima is good bang for the buck. What it lacks in cachet it makes up for in value, fuel efficiency (your motor) and that new feeling. Nice to see you weren't tempted enough with the G35, as I think the car has lost its mystique with so many on the road even though it is a very worthy ride.
Hope you're okay from the auto collision.

I never even said that i had the G35 in mind.
I agree with Will about the G35s.. theyre way too common now. The altima is still a very exciting car, very fuel efficient (the 2.5L motor), and yes i know RWD is way more fun to drive, but i'm going for practicality at the moment, so the FWD wont be a problem in the winter either.
I though long and hard before deciding on the Altima coupe, and did tons of research as well. To me, it's everything i need at the moment and it's within my budget and the insurance isn't bad at all either.
Will, i'm gonna be getting it brand new, and leasing it for either 3 or 4 years. I'm finalizing all the paperwork on Tuesday.
My first choice for the colour was white as well, but in order to get it in White, i HAVE to add the Premium Package (which i really want, coz it adds the leather and the digital compass and other goodies), but then in order to have the Premium package on the 2.5 Coupe... i HAVE to add the CVT. It's a pretty stupid way of doing things on Nissan's end if you ask me. There's no way i'm gonna get the car with the automatic transmission, and with the 6spd, i only have a choice of 4 colours. Black, Silver, Red, Charcoal Grey. The charcoal gray is what i want at the moment, but i might end up with a red or black, we'll see what happens on tuesday. I won't get it in Silver though, i just dont like it.

I'm not willing to go more than 2 years old, so even a 2006 G Coupe comes to $32k plus taxes, where as the MSRP on the Altima 2.5S Coupe is 29k (including freight and PDI) plus taxes. (And thats the MSRP, i'm getting it for way cheaper than that)
The payments: Nissan has a pretty decent lease rate on this car right now, on the used G, i'd have to finance it through a bank or something, and the interest rates arent pretty
The Gas: I'm obviously gonna use at least 1.5 times more gas in the V6 G Coupe than i would in the 4Banger Alti Coupe.
Insurance: I've already gotten a quote from my insurance company, and surprisingly enough, i'm paying less for it per month than i was for the maxima. go figure.
So all in all, it's win win situation for me. I've thought of almost all other options, and to me this one seems the best. I've read a bunch of reviews on the car, and other than a small trunk, i don't seem to see any other shortcomings on the car.

Yeah, Coupe is sick. Light, fast and almost looks like infiniti. A definite gas saver.
Have fun with it!

Vab!
Glad to hear you are happy with your purchase. My only question:
Since this is a practical car for you, is it going to be MOD-FREE?
HMMM??
Inquiring minds want to know!
Take care man.

MOD FREE?? NEVAHH!!
lol
I'm buying the rims next week, i'm taking them with me to the dealership when i get delivery, and getting them to put em on for me to drive away with.
I've already got my eyes set on a few things. The first couple of things will be : HIDs, and then Navi Double DIN unit. And ofcourse the Rims, the lowering will come soon as well
